Hi Jack,
My heart goes out to you, your wife and your grandmother. This world is filled with so much pain and suffering.
First, I would suggest consulting a doctor. My opinion should not be a substitute for professional consultation. I have been involved in health research for more than 30 years so I do have an opinion to share. I am not a doctor nor degreed medical professional.
I would not conclude that your wife or any of you are only suffering from lack of circulation. The majority of us that are 55 and older have a tendency to think that loosing sensation, tingling, numbness, pain and discomfort in the feet, legs, hands and arms are do to a lack of circulation. Although, there probably is a lack of circulation, generally there are other conditions actual causing the symptoms.
The majority of aging adults develop some kind of autoimmune condition. Not all of these conditions have been identified. Another challenge with aging is the increased level of inflammation. The majority of inflammation is a result of a dysfunctional immune system. I have worked with a number of individuals that have symptoms similar to what you described. I have found when I only effected circulation the majority of symptoms persisted.
I suggest that you focus on balancing the immune system, inflammation and last circulation. Transfer Factor is the best product that I know of for balancing the immune system. Standardized Grape Seed extract and fish oil extracts, Green Tea and Turmeric extracts are good for inflammation.
There are several possible causations for poor circulation including heart condition, blockage of the arterial channels, hardening of the arteries and a general weakening of the cardiovascular system. EXERCISE is one of the best remedies. Just 20 minutes three to four times a week of brisk walking, bicycle riding etc. will do wonders for your health. Reducing high cholesterol levels, reducing homocysteine levels, reducing blood cell aggregation, increasing heart strength, improving the flexibility of the arterial lining can all help.
Targeted Transfer Factors, Ginkgo biloba, CoQ10, and Standardized Grape Seed Extract will go along way in helping in these areas. There are a number of other nutrients that can help but I do not want to make the list too long so that it doesn't become too confusing. I hope this helps. I wish you the best.
Mike
